    Introducing…

We’d like to introduce you all to our newest crew member, Athena Judith Brooks. She was born in Bermuda on the 4th March 2021 at 22:12 weighing a healthy 7lb 8oz.

Yes, I know I’m very late in letting you know the happy news, but these past six weeks have been a whirlwind that has taken quite some getting used to! I thought our experience of offshore sailing with a watch system of 3-hours on followed by 3-hours off would have put us in great stead for the sleepless nights of parenthood. I was wrong. Very wrong! We now walk around like zombies, covered in the various bodily excretions of an infant. Projectile vomits I expected, but projectile poos I did not.

How do you use the ocean?

Well, hasn’t it been a crazy year!? I don’t know about you, but life for us has been a whirlwind since I arrived in Bermuda this time last year. After completing our world voyage we’ve spent our time putting down roots on this little island, and the pandemic certainly hasn’t stopped us!

Our next talk: Cultures of the Ocean

Our second talk is just around the corner! This one is all about the remote island-cultures we visited during our voyage and the unique relationship people have with the ocean. Alex and I are incredibly excited to tell you all about the wonderful, resilient people we met during our circumnavigation and the life-lessons they have to teach us.

For those who can make it, it’s being held at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institution this Thursday 5th of March at 7.30pm. Visit the BUEI website or see the poster below for more details. We’d love to see you there!

Want to know more about life at sea?

Psst… are you still there? I can’t believe it’s been 6 months since we completed our voyage. Time has flown by since getting back Bermuda and a LOT has happened since then, but I’ll save those updates for another post. For now, I just wanted to tell all the Bermuda-based folk that Alex and I are giving a talk at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute on Tuesday 4th of February at 7.30pm, and you’re all invited! Visit the BUEI website or see the poster below for more details.

This will be the first of a series of three talks over the next few months and will take you on a virtual tour of Bob and give an overview of the voyage and what it’s like to live on a small sailboat in a challenging environment. In the second and third talks (in March and April) we’ll talk more about the places, people and wildlife that we encountered. We hope you can make it.

    Bob’s Homecoming

I don’t think I’m a very good traveller, at least not in the long term. One thing I’ve struggled with during this voyage is being so far away from the people I love. I sometimes found it exhausting to put in so much energy making friends, only to say goodbye after a few short weeks knowing that I will probably never see those people again. Being surrounded by familiar faces is something that I completely took for granted before this voyage, and their absence is something I’ve never quite gotten used to.
